Bhubaneswar: Four minors were rescued from Chhatrapur railway station in Ganjam district following a joint operation late Tuesday night.
The operation was conducted by the Labour Department, District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and police. Two persons suspected of being involved in trafficking were detained, and the vehicle allegedly used to transport the children was seized.
According to reports, the rescued minors included children from the Chhatrapur and Purushottampur areas. The children were allegedly being taken to Chhatrapur railway station before being transported to Surat in Gujarat.
Acting on a tip-off, officials from the District Child Protection Unit, Chhatrapur Labour Department, RPF, and police launched a joint operation and intercepted the suspected trafficking attempt. The team safely rescued the four minors and detained the two alleged traffickers during the raid.
The rescued children will be produced before the Shishu Mangal Samiti for further care, counselling, and rehabilitation. Meanwhile, police have started questioning the detained persons to gather details about the suspected trafficking network and their alleged involvement in the case.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
