Bhubaneswar: In a fresh incident that has cast a shadow over the state capital, a minor girl was allegedly raped in the Dhauli police station area here. Police have arrested the accused, identified as Jagannath Barik, in connection with the crime.
According to police sources, the accused allegedly entered the victim’s residence, threatened her, and committed the assault. The crime came to light after the survivor filed a formal complaint at the Dhauli police station on Thursday. Based on her statement, an FIR was registered, and an investigation was promptly initiated.
Following preliminary inquiry and collection of evidence, the police apprehended the accused. He was later produced before a local court, which remanded him to judicial custody. Officials confirmed that further medical examinations and statements are being recorded as part of the ongoing investigation.
“We have arrested the accused and forwarded him to court. The investigation is in progress, and we are ensuring all legal procedures are followed,” said a senior police officer.
