Rayagada: A selfie attempt turned fatal for a Class 10 student in Rayagada district after he reportedly slipped and fell from Bujibang waterfall in the Ambadala area on Friday.
The incident took place near Kulerdaptta village, where the student is said to have been taking a selfie at the waterfall when he lost his balance and plunged from a height. He sustained critical injuries and was initially rushed to Bhabanipatna for treatment. As his condition deteriorated, he was being shifted to Burla for advanced medical care but succumbed to his injuries on the way.
The student’s body was later brought back to his native village, triggering an atmosphere of grief among family members, classmates and local residents.
The incident has also given rise to conflicting claims over the circumstances leading to the tragedy. According to some classmates and villagers, the student had attended school earlier in the day and the mishap occurred while he was returning home in the afternoon.
However, the headmaster of the school has rejected the claim, stating that the student had not attended classes on the day of the incident.
With contradictory versions emerging, questions have been raised over the sequence of events leading to the fatal accident. Local residents have demanded an impartial investigation to ascertain the facts surrounding the student’s death.
