Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Friday approved the upgradation of 67 primary schools across different districts of the state into upper primary institutions, a move aimed at expanding access to middle-level education and strengthening school infrastructure.
In an official communication, the School and Mass Education Department informed the State Project Director of the Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA) that the proposal for upgrading the schools had been approved in accordance with the prescribed government norms and guidelines.
The approval came following a proposal submitted by OSEPA to improve access to upper primary education and provide students with better learning opportunities closer to their homes. A district-wise list of the selected 67 schools has been included in the government order.
The upgradation process will help students, particularly those from rural and underserved areas, continue their education beyond the primary level without having to travel long distances to attend upper primary classes.
The department has directed OSEPA to take the necessary steps to implement the decision. The authorities concerned have been asked to ensure the availability of the required infrastructure, including classrooms and other basic amenities, along with the adequate deployment of teaching staff.
The department has also instructed officials to complete all administrative and regulatory formalities required for operationalising the upgraded schools. OSEPA will submit a compliance report after completing the necessary procedures.
The move is part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen school education facilities and improve student retention by ensuring a seamless transition from primary to upper primary levels.
With the upgradation of these 67 schools, students in several districts are expected to benefit from improved access to education and enhanced learning facilities within their local communities.
