Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Odisha for July 16, with widespread rain activity expected to continue across the state till July 20 under the influence of a low pressure system.
According to the IMD midday bulletin, Jagatsinghapur and Puri districts are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places tomorrow.
An orange warning has also been issued for July 16 for Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Kandhamal, Khurda, Nayagarh and Ganjam, where heavy to very heavy rain is very likely at one or two places.
A Yellow Warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for Balasore, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sonepur, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Rayagada and Gajapati for the same day.
The wet spell will continue into July 17 with an Orange Warning for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj, where heavy to very heavy rain is forecast. A Yellow Warning has been sounded for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Bargarh, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh.
For July 18, the IMD has placed Sambalpur and Angul under Orange Warning for heavy to very heavy rain. Yellow Warning for heavy rain has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Sonepur.
The intensity is expected to reduce from July 19 and 20, with only a Yellow Warning in place. On July 19, heavy rain is likely at one or two places in Balasore, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj. On July 20, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall.
The IMD has advised fishermen and people in low-lying areas to remain alert and follow advisories issued by local authorities during the period.
