Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of intense rainfall activity across Odisha in the coming days, with a Red Alert issued for extremely heavy rainfall in multiple districts starting July 17.
On July 17, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Sonepur, and Boudh.
An Orange Warning has also been issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabrangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh. Additionally, a yellow warning for heavy rainfall at isolated places remains in effect for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Nuapada, Malkangiri, and Ganjam.
The Orange Warning is expected to continue on July 18 for heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Nuapada, and Balangir.
Going by prediction for July 18, a Yellow Warning will cover a broader area including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh. Thereafter, the intensity is likely to decrease gradually.
On July 19, a Yellow Warning for heavy rainfall at one or two places has been issued for Balasore, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, and Balangir.
The Yellow Warning will persist on July 20 over Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj, and on July 21 over Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.
The IMD has urged residents, particularly in vulnerable and low-lying areas, to stay alert and take necessary precautions as the heavy spells could lead to waterlogging, river flooding, and disruptions in daily life.
