Bhubaneswar: A fresh debate on national pride and the tricolour has started in state politics ahead of Independence Day after Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari warned of strict action against those who disrespect the national flag.
Speaking ahead of August 15 celebrations, the Minister said strict action will be taken against anyone found disrespecting the tricolour.
“Love the tricolor, say Vande Mataram. Even now, some people refuse to recite Vande Mataram. This is an anti-patriotic attitude. There were people who loved the British then, there are still some such people today,” Pujari said.
He made it clear that disrespect to the national flag and to patriotism will not be tolerated and the government will take action.
The Minister’s remarks have sparked discussions in political circles. The question now being raised is who the Revenue Minister was referring to with the warning.
With Independence Day approaching, the government has directed officials across districts to ensure proper observance and respect for the national flag during celebrations.
