Bhubaneswar: A 30-year-old migrant worker from Ganjam district died on Saturday after allegedly falling from a running train while on his way to Chennai in search of work.
The deceased has been identified as Tuna Behera of Bhishmagiri village under Digapahandi block in Ganjam district. According to family members and fellow passengers, Tuna had left his village with a group of friends on Friday night to take up labour work in Chennai. He was reportedly the sole earning member of his family.
The tragedy occurred near Patambakkam, close to Cuddalore Port Junction in Tamil Nadu, when Tuna is believed to have lost balance and fallen from the moving train. He sustained critical injuries and died on the spot.On being informed, Government Railway Police reached the site, recovered the body and sent it to a nearby government hospital for post-mortem.
The news of his death has left his family and villagers in deep shock. Locals described Tuna as hardworking and said his loss has put his dependent family in severe distress.
Railway Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances leading to the fall. The body will be handed over to the family after post-mortem formalities.
