Bhubaneswar: Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra, who is on a two-day visit to New Delhi, met Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, New and Renewable Energy, and Education Prahlad Joshi and discussed issues concerning the state’s food security and procurement system.
During the meeting, Patra apprised Joshi of the ongoing Kharif paddy procurement process in Odisha. The two ministers discussed measures to further strengthen paddy procurement, improve foodgrain management and ensure proper storage and distribution of rice through godowns and the public distribution system (PDS).
They also reiterated their commitment to strengthening the food security system through coordinated efforts of the Centre and the state government and safeguarding the interests of beneficiaries.
Joshi assured Patra of continued cooperation and support from the Centre to Odisha in matters related to foodgrain procurement and distribution.
Union Food and Public Distribution Secretary Sanjeev Chopra, State Supplies Corporation Managing Director K. Sudarshan Chakravarty and other departmental officials were present during the meeting.
