Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area has formed over the north Bay of Bengal close to the West Bengal-Bangladesh coast under the influence of an active cyclonic circulation, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported at 5:30 am today.
As per IMD prediction, the system is expected to move northwestwards and may intensify further over the next 48 hours. Under its influence, rainfall activity is likely to increase across Odisha. Rain is expected to continue in various parts of the state for the next five to six days.
Going by today’s forecast issued by the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, most places in the state are likely to receive rain. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is possible at one or two places in Anugola and Kendujhar districts, for which an orange warning has been issued.
Also, a yellow warning has also been issued for isolated places in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Sundargada, Jharsuguda, Bargada, Sambalpur, Deogada, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Puri, and Khordha districts due to the likelihood of heavy rainfall.
Residents in the affected districts are advised to remain alert and follow official weather updates.
