Bhubaneswar: The Congress party has called for a 12-hour bandh in Anugola district today, demanding a permanent solution to problems caused by coal and ash transportation and the withdrawal of cases against five residents of Koshala Panchayat who were allegedly arrested on false charges. The bandh is being observed from 6 am to 6 pm today.

According to the protesters, all activities except essential and emergency services have remained closed.

Congress District President Sunil Pradhan said pollution levels in Angul district have been rising due to the continuous transportation of coal and fly ash. He alleged that five people from Koshala who had protested against the pollution have been lodged in jail for nearly four months. The bandh has been called to protest these issues and demand the withdrawal of the cases against them. The call has received support from various organisations.

Schools, colleges, government offices, private establishments, shops and markets remained closed today. While all vehicular movement has remained closed since morning, shops and markets have not opened.

Meanwhile, Congress workers are picketing at various intersections and seeking the cooperation of the people. Police are keeping a close watch on the agitators. Police personnel have been deployed at all places in the town. The impact of the 12-hour bandh is visible in Athmallik. The Athmallik town Congress unit has joined the bandh.
