Bhubaneswar: All government, private and aided schools in Mayurbhanj district will remain closed today following a heavy rainfall warning issued by the India Meteorological Department due to a low pressure system.
The District Education Officer announced the closure citing student safety as the priority. The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in Mayurbhanj on August 13. Thunderstorm, lightning and gusty surface winds with speeds of 30-40 kmph are also likely in the district.
In the official order, the DEO directed that while students will stay home, all teachers and teaching staff must report to their respective schools as per schedule.
The administration has advised parents to keep children indoors and avoid low-lying areas as the low pressure is expected to bring intense rain over the next 24 hours.
