Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red warning for Odisha as a well-marked low pressure over coastal West Bengal and adjoining areas of Bangladesh and Northwest Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression in the next 12 hours.
According to the latest IMD bulletin issued today, heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall is very likely over Odisha on August 13. Rainfall activity is expected to continue with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall on August 14 and heavy rainfall August 15 and August 16 as the system moves northwestwards towards Jharkhand.
Similar conditions have been forecast for Gangetic West Bengal with extremely heavy rain likely today, followed by heavy to very heavy rain on August 14 and heavy rain on August 15.
Meanwhile, the IMD has also warned of squally winds reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph over the North Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha-West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts during the next 24 hours. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the North Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha-West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts till August 14.
With continuous rain already lashing north Odisha districts, authorities have been asked to remain on high alert for possible waterlogging, flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.
