Mayurbhanj: In a tragic incident, a tusker killed a five-year-old boy at Bamiai Sahi of Nedhuapal village under Karanjia police limits in Mayurbhanj district.
The deceased has been identified as Purnachandra Laguri, son of Bharat Laguri and Saraswati Gagarai.
According to information, the wild tusker entered Bamiai Sahi of Nedhuapal. The elephant then broke into a house and started damaging the house. The animal even did not spare the small child Purnachandra who was inside the house and trampled him to death. The tusker also caused damage to nearby houses.
Following the incident, panic and fear gripped Bamiai Sahi and adjoining areas. As the attack happened while people were asleep inside their homes, locals have expressed growing fear over elephant movement in the area.
Forest department officials reached the spot and launched an investigation. Locals have demanded that the department monitor the elephant’s movement and take immediate steps to alert residents.
The family of Purnachandra and the entire area are in mourning over the tragic incident.
Meanwhile, residents have urged the forest department to take immediate measures to prevent human-elephant conflict and stop elephants from entering human habitations.
