Bhubaneswar: An abducted businessman from Balangir was rescued by police in Bhubaneswar on Saturday following a coordinated operation by the Balangir Police and the Commissionerate Police.
The businessman, identified as Narendra Sahoo, alias Munda, was allegedly abducted by a group of six to seven people and assaulted before being rescued from the Khandagiri area, reports said.
According to reports, Sahoo had a verbal altercation with a group of people on Friday afternoon. He reportedly went missing shortly after the incident, following which his family lodged a complaint with the police.
During the investigation, police reportedly tracked Sahoo’s mobile phone to the area near DN Regalia Mall in Bhubaneswar. Acting on the location inputs, the Balangir Police, with assistance from the Commissionerate Police, formed multiple teams and launched a search operation in the area.
The police teams conducted a raid at an apartment near DN Regalia Mall and rescued Sahoo on Saturday afternoon, reports said.
The alleged abductors, however, managed to flee the spot before police could apprehend them. Police have launched a search operation to trace and arrest those involved in the alleged abduction and assault.
The rescue operation was carried out under the supervision of Inspector General of Police (IGP), Northern Range, Himanshu Kumar Lal, and Balangir Superintendent of Police (SP) Abilash G, with assistance from the Commissionerate Police.
Police are investigating the circumstances leading to the alleged abduction, including the reported verbal altercation that preceded Sahoo’s disappearance.
Further investigation is underway.
