Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported extremely heavy rainfall at one station and very heavy rainfall at nine stations across Odisha as of 8:30 am on August 17.
According to IMD, Bhogorai in Baleshwar district recorded the highest rainfall of 217.0 mm, placing it in the extremely heavy rainfall category. Several stations in Mayurbhanj district also received very heavy rain, with Karanjia recording 164.0 mm, followed by Kusumi at 144.0 mm, Kaptipada at 138.0 mm, Joshipur at 135.0 mm, Sukruli at 134.0 mm, Raruana at 130.0 mm and Udala at 125.8 mm.
Other significant amounts include Champua in Kendujhar which registered 121.4 mm and Batagaon in Sambalpur which recorded 120.0 mm.
In total, the IMD observed extremely heavy rainfall at one station, very heavy rainfall at nine stations and heavy rainfall at 25 stations.
Baleshwar and Mayurbhanj districts accounted for most of the high rainfall figures, while heavy rain was also reported from stations in Kendujhar, Sambalpur, Balangir and Bhadrak.
The widespread rainfall continues to be closely monitored by the meteorological department amid the ongoing weather system over the region.
