Dhenkanal: An Odisha Auxiliary Police Force (OAPF) constable was found hanging inside his rented accommodation in Dhenkanal town on Monday, with police suspecting suicide.
The deceased was identified as Sankar Pradhan, a resident of Katama village in Gajapati district. He was staying in a rented asbestos-roofed house at Khamar Sahi in Dhenkanal.
According to reports, police are probing all possible angles, including a reported family dispute, while awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death. Pradhan’s body was found hanging from an iron beam in the kitchen, with a towel tied around his neck. After being alerted, personnel from Dhenkanal Town Police Station reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it to the District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation into the incident. The exact cause and circumstances of the death will be established only after the autopsy report is received and the investigation is completed.
A preliminary inquiry revealed that Pradhan had allegedly been suspended from service last year over charges related to alcohol consumption. He reportedly had a quarrel with his family on Sunday night and allegedly asked his wife and child to leave the house. Police suspect that the constable may have died by suicide following the reported domestic dispute.
Further investigation is underway.
