Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday reviewed the ongoing mega redevelopment project of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack aimed at transforming it into a world-class healthcare center through upgradation and infrastructure development.
In the meeting it was informed that the construction of four new clinical blocks and one residential block in the SCB Medical Complex is progressing at a rapid pace. While the residential block is almost complete, officials said the clinical blocks are scheduled to be completed by June next year. The Chief Minister directed that another Medicine department block should also be constructed and asked the concerned department to identify a suitable site and submit a proposal at the earliest.
The progress of the Multi-Level Car Parking facility being built in the first phase and related infrastructure development works of the hospital were also discussed in detail. The CM said the main objective of the parking facility is to ease movement and parking for patients, their relatives and doctors visiting the medical campus.
He directed that construction of the new infrastructure for clinical blocks be expedited to ensure modern medical services for thousands of patients visiting SCB. He further instructed that the areas on both sides of the Taladanda Canal adjacent to the hospital should be developed with wide roads and beautification to create a pleasant environment.
The Chief Minister asked departmental officers to complete the MLCP and the Taladanda Canal connected traffic corridor under the first phase within the stipulated time frame while maintaining quality.
Officials informed that the parking system under the project will help alleviate traffic problems for patients and attendants visiting SCB and the nearby Acharya Harihar Cancer Institute. The integrated development and beautification work of Bose Engineering School, Biju Patnaik Film and Television Institute and Odisha State Maritime Museum, which are located adjacent to the medical college, have also been coordinated with the project.
The meeting also reviewed the development of Hanuman Vatika, a well-known religious and tourist destination in Rourkela, and the transformation of its surrounding areas. The Chief Minister suggested that new construction works to be taken up by the Odisha Bridge and Construction Corporation Limited should be executed in a complete spiritual style. He directed that construction of other spiritual structures including the ongoing and proposed Kalyan Mandap within the Vatika complex be expedited.
He asked for necessary infrastructure to be developed for the convenience of devotees while preserving the sanctity and natural environment of the temple. The Works Department has been directed to prepare a detailed project report for beautification of the area outside the temple along with wide passageways and lighting.
Law, Works and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, Chief Secretary Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretary to the CM Shashwat Mishra, Additional Chief Secretary Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary Works Department Sanjay Kumar Singh, Commissioner and Secretary Health Department Ashwathi S., OBCC Managing Director Anupam Shah, Cuttack District Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde and CMC Commissioner Kirandeep Kaur Sahota attended the review meeting.
