Bhubaneswar: A high-level review meeting on law and order, crime control and policing was held at the state police headquarters on Friday under the chairmanship of Director General of Police Vinaytosh Mishra.
All Range IGs/DIGs and SPs of all districts attended the meeting through video conferencing. The meeting held a detailed discussion on the current law and order situation, crime suppression, identification of sensitive areas, review of important crimes, better public service delivery and various administrative issues.
Addressing the officers, DGP Mishra directed that every citizen who comes to a police station with a complaint should be heard patiently and treated with respect. He stressed on impartial and speedy investigation and asked police personnel to attend offices regularly to improve efficiency at police stations. He also directed SDPOs to visit subordinate stations regularly and supervise work.
With a series of festivals lined up between August and November, including Janmashtami, Ganesh Puja, Nuakhai, Vishwakarma Puja, Durga Puja, Ghajalaxmi Puja, Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, Deepavali/Kali Puja, Anla Navami, Panchuka and Bali Yatra, the DGP emphasized advance security arrangements.
He ordered adequate police deployment at sensitive places, crowd control, traffic management, peace committee meetings and continuous coordination with local representatives and community groups. He asked for close monitoring of communally sensitive areas and proactive preventive measures to avoid any untoward incident.
On crime control, DGP Mishra directed strict legal action against habitual and organized criminals. He asked officials to intensify checking and patrolling to check illegal cattle smuggling and illegal cracker manufacturing, and to conduct regular raids against illegal mineral extraction and transportation. He also ordered prompt action against traffic violators.
The DGP further directed strict monitoring of rumours and inflammatory, offensive or misleading content on social media and prompt legal action against those spreading such propaganda. He stressed on strengthening criminal intelligence gathering to get early inputs on possible crimes.
To tackle cyber crime, he asked for further strengthening of cyber police stations and making investigation of cyber cases more effective. SPs have been asked to visit cyber police stations once every week to review work.
DGP Mishra also directed all district SPs to organize peace committee meetings regularly and improve people-to-police relations at the local level.
