Bhubaneswar: Odisha Science and Technology Minister Krushna Chandra Patra on Saturday reviewed research and technology development activities at CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (CSIR-IMMT) here and stressed the need to harness modern technologies for greater value addition to the state’s mineral resources.
During his visit to the institute, Patra toured various research laboratories, pilot plants and technology demonstration centres and reviewed the practical applications of ongoing research.
He took stock of research activities in key areas such as mineral processing, metal extraction, recovery of valuable elements, advanced materials development, waste-to-resource technologies and environmentally sustainable technologies.
The minister also held discussions with CSIR-IMMT Director Dr Ramanuj Narayan on ongoing research projects, technology development, industry collaboration and the institute’s future plans.
Patra emphasised the need to make research more application-oriented so that scientific innovations can translate into practical solutions and greater economic value for Odisha.
He stressed the importance of processing minerals within the state and adopting new technologies to maximise value addition to Odisha’s vast mineral resources.
The minister also called for greater focus on the reuse of industrial waste and the development of environmentally sustainable industries, saying scientific and industrial growth should go hand in hand with environmental protection.
Patra further stressed the need for stronger collaboration between research institutions and industries to ensure that technologies developed through research are effectively taken up for commercial applications.
He said the state government is committed to leveraging science, research and technology to create new industrial opportunities and employment while making better use of Odisha’s natural resources.
At the end of his visit, Patra planted a ‘Parijat’ tree on the CSIR-IMMT premises, highlighting the importance of balancing scientific and industrial development with environmental sustainability.
He said the BJP-led Mohan Charan Majhi government would continue its efforts to connect science and technology with Odisha’s natural resources, industries and youth to accelerate the state’s development and contribute to building a ‘Viksit Odisha’.
