Khallikote: A 13-year-old boy died after suffering an electric shock while working on a science project at his home in Kairasi village under Khallikote police station limits in Ganjam district on Saturday evening.
The deceased was identified as Bismaya Nahak, son of Mangulu Nahak of Pakshiraj Sahi in the village. Bismaya was a Class 8 student of Nilakantheswar High School in Kairasi.
According to reports, Bismaya was working on a science project at home when he reportedly conducted an experiment involving electricity. During the process, he suffered a severe electric shock and collapsed.
Family members immediately rushed him in an auto-rickshaw to the Khallikote Community Health Centre. However, the attending doctor declared him dead on arrival.
The boy’s death cast a pall of gloom over the health centre and the village. Police seized the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. An investigation into the incident is underway.
