Sora: A jail warder was seriously injured after three unidentified miscreants allegedly attacked him with a sharp weapon near Manatri Chhak under Sora police station limits in Baleshwar district on Wednesday, police said.
The injured man has been identified as 48-year-old Surendra Samal of Baldipara village. He is posted as a warden at Sora Sub-Jail.
According to reports, Samal was travelling to the jail on his motorcycle this afternoon when three persons riding a motorcycle intercepted him near Manatri Chhak and allegedly launched a sudden attack. He sustained a deep injury to his right leg, while a finger of his left hand was severed in the assault.
Local residents rescued Samal and rushed him to Sora Community Health Centre (CHC), for treatment. Following initial treatment, doctors referred him to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Kataka as his condition was stated to be serious.
The motive behind the attack has not yet been ascertained. On being informed about the incident, Sora police station Inspector-in-Charge Debaraj Jena reached the spot and initiated an investigation to identify the attackers and establish the circumstances leading to the assault.
