The deceased has been identified as Sumant Sethi. He had initially complained of fever, headache and body ache and was later diagnosed with scrub typhus infection caused by the bite of infected chiggers.
More than ten infected persons have been admitted to Khamar Community Health Centre (CHC) and other health centres for treatment.
Sub-Collector, Pallahara, Rabindra Kumar Patel said he spoke to the Medical Officer of Khamar CHC regarding the situation.
“The Medical Officer informed that one patient infected with scrub typhus has died while four to five patients are under treatment. The situation is under control and proper medication is being provided. The infected persons are kept under observation,” Patel said.
He said neighbouring villages have been put on alert and necessary medical arrangements have been made.
