Puri: Internationally acclaimed sand artist and Padma Shri awardee Sudarsan Pattnaik on Friday created a special sand sculpture at Puri Beach, carrying the message “Prayers for Nepal” as a mark of solidarity with people affected by the devastating floods in the neighbouring country.
Measuring around 20 feet in width and five feet in height, the sculpture conveys a message of compassion, hope and humanity at a time when Nepal is grappling with the aftermath of severe flooding and loss of life.
Through the artwork, Pattnaik offered prayers for the safety and well-being of the people of Nepal and expressed solidarity with families affected by the disaster. Created on the sands of Puri Beach, the sculpture seeks to underline the importance of standing together in times of natural calamities and extending support and hope to those in distress.
The artwork was created with the support of students from the Sudarsan Sand Art Institute.
“My heartfelt prayers are with the people of Nepal affected by the floods. Through this sand art, I want to express solidarity and remind everyone that in difficult times, humanity must stand together. I pray for the safety, strength and well-being of the people of Nepal. Prayers for Nepal,” Pattnaik said.
The sand artist has represented India at more than 65 international sand sculpture championships and festivals and has earned global recognition for his work.
Pattnaik has also frequently used sand art to highlight issues of global and social importance, including climate change, plastic pollution, public health, wildlife conservation and world peace.
The latest installation at Puri Beach once again uses art as a medium to transcend geographical boundaries and convey a message of solidarity during a time of crisis.
