Puri: A 30-year-old woman died while undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar, after she was allegedly set ablaze by her husband following a family dispute in Puri district on Wednesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Sarojini Mallick of Kumbharpada village in the district.
According to reports, Sarojini was allegedly set on fire by her husband, Bikram Kumar Mallick, at their residence on Wednesday night following a family dispute. She sustained critical burn injuries in the incident.
She was initially rushed to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in a critical condition. As her condition deteriorated, she was later shifted to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, for advanced treatment. However, she succumbed to her injuries late Thursday night, sources said.
Following a written complaint lodged by the victim’s family, Kumbharpada police registered a case (No. 453/2026) and launched an investigation into the incident.
Police have arrested Bikram Kumar Mallick in connection with the case. He will be forwarded to court later today, police said.
