Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday claimed that no farmer suicide has been reported in the state in the last two years since the BJP government assumed office.
Majhi made the statement while releasing more than Rs 833 crore as the fifth instalment of financial assistance under the CM-KISAN scheme for over 41 lakh farmers in the state.
Addressing the gathering, the chief minister said financial support extended through the PM-KISAN and CM-KISAN schemes, coupled with the state government’s paddy procurement policy, had helped ease the economic difficulties faced by farming households.
“Farmers are receiving Rs 10,000 annually through PM-KISAN and CM-KISAN schemes. The state is also providing Rs 3,100 per quintal for paddy, which has helped address their financial difficulties,” Majhi said.
He claimed that the government had ensured that all eligible beneficiaries received the latest assistance through direct benefit transfer (DBT) into their bank accounts.
Under the latest disbursement, each beneficiary received Rs 2,000. The beneficiaries include predominantly small and marginal farmers, landless agricultural households and members of particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTGs), he said.
The CM-KISAN scheme is one of the key state government initiatives aimed at providing financial support to farmers and strengthening the rural economy.
