Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to witness light to moderate rain or thunderstorms at one or two places across the state over the next four days, while the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow warnings for heavy rainfall in parts of northern Odisha on September 9-11.

According to the IMD’s Evening Weather Bulletin issued on Friday, light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are very likely at one or two places over all districts of Odisha from Friday night till September 8. No warning has been issued for these four days.

The weather system is likely to become more active thereafter. On September 9, light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are expected at a few places across the state, with a yellow warning for heavy rainfall at one or two places in Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj districts.

On September 10, light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are likely at many places across Odisha, while heavy rainfall is very likely at one or two places in Sundargarh, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj districts, for which the IMD has issued a yellow warning.

The IMD has advised people to remain cautious as heavy rainfall could lead to localised flooding, waterlogging in low-lying areas and closure of underpasses, particularly in urban areas. Reduced visibility, traffic disruptions, minor damage to kutcha roads and vulnerable structures, landslides and damage to horticulture and standing crops are also possible in affected areas.

People have been advised to check traffic conditions before beginning their journey, follow traffic advisories and avoid waterlogged areas and vulnerable structures.

For Bhubaneswar and adjoining areas, the IMD has forecast a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of rain or thunderstorms during the next 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to remain around 35 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively.

No weather warning has been issued for fishermen along the Odisha coast from September 4 to 8.
