Bhubaneswar: In a heart-wrenching incident, a girl died while trying to save her mother after both came in contact with a live wire.
The incident was reported from Karlasoda village under Bhawanipatna Sadar police station limits in Kalahandi district.
The deceased have been identified as Lalita Naik and her daughter Sheetal Naik.
According to information, Lalita accidentally came in contact with a live wire. Her daughter Sheetal rushed to rescue her but also suffered a severe electric shock. Villagers and family members immediately called an ambulance for medical assistance. However, it is alleged that the ambulance did not reach on time despite a long wait. The family then took both the critically injured mother and daughter to the hospital in an auto-rickshaw.
It has been further alleged that even after reaching the hospital, they did not get timely and proper treatment. Due to alleged medical negligence, both the mother and daughter died. The incident triggered tension in the area.
Demanding justice, irate family members and villagers placed the two bodies in front of the Kalahandi Collector’s office and staged a gherao. They demanded stringent action against those responsible for the delay in ambulance service.
Upon being informed, police from Bhawanipatna Town police station and the local Tahasildar reached the spot and were trying to pacify the agitators and bring the situation under control.
