Bhubaneswar: Opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Wednesday criticised newly appointed Odisha Governor Braj Mohan Ram over his reported remarks that he would work to strengthen the BJP after assuming office, saying such comments undermine the constitutional position of the Governor as being above party politics.
The regional party released a video circulated by a news agency in which Ram was purportedly heard speaking about his plans after taking charge as the Governor.
“We are shocked to hear his comments in a video, where he reiterates that he would work towards strengthening the BJP. We condemn the remark as it negates the fact that the governor is above party politics,” the BJD said in a statement.
BJD media coordinator Lenin Mohanty also criticised the reported remarks, describing them as unbecoming of a Governor.
Ram, a three-time former BJP MP, was appointed Odisha Governor on Monday.
