Bhubaneswar: The flood situation in Ganjam district triggered by Cyclone Arnab is expected to see improvement from this evening, said Dillip Kumar Rout, Engineer-in-Chief of the Water Resources Department.
Rout stated that such intense rainfall in Ganjam was not anticipated. The department is closely monitoring the situation, especially the Rushikulya river which is in spate.
At Purushottampur, the Rushikulya is flowing at 19 metres, well above its danger level of 17 metres, he informed. While the water level of the Bansadhara river has begun to fall, the Rushikulya remains under close watch, the EIC added.
He further said that the Bahuda river water has reached the railway bridge, leading to suspension of train services on the route. Services will resume only after the water recedes.
On Hirakud Dam, Rout clarified that there is no plan to open the gates as of now. A call in this regard will be taken after October 30 after reviewing the water level. He also said there is no flood threat in Mahanadi river as of now.
