Bhubaneswar: A fresh cyclonic storm is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours, days after Cyclone Arnab, as a depression formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal on Saturday, raising the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Odisha and neighbouring states over the coming days.
According to weather scientists, a well-marked low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the Andaman Sea intensified into a depression on October 31, 2026.
The system is very likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours. It is expected to move west-northwestwards and reach the west-central Bay of Bengal, off the Andhra Pradesh coast, by the evening of November 2.
Under its influence, isolated extremely heavy rainfall is likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on November 2. Very heavy rainfall is also forecast at isolated places in these areas on November 3.
Rayalaseema is likely to experience isolated very heavy rainfall on November 2 and 3.
In Odisha, isolated very heavy rainfall is likely on November 3 and 4, prompting attention to the evolving weather situation as the system advances towards the west-central Bay of Bengal.
Weather authorities are closely monitoring the system’s intensification and movement, with its projected trajectory indicating the possibility of adverse weather conditions along parts of the east coast.
