Malkangiri: The Forest Department has initiated precautionary measures to ensure safety of both villagers and the wildlife after a radio-collared tiger from Papikondalu landscapes was found moving within the jurisdiction of the Motu Range under the Malkangiri Forest Division.
In compliance with the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) Standard Operating Procedure for tracking and monitoring wild carnivores in fringe areas, the Forest Department has initiated precautionary measures to ensure safety of both villagers and the wildlife.
Village-level public announcements are being carried out in surrounding habitations to alert residents about the presence of the tiger. Villagers have been advised to remain vigilant, avoid entering vulnerable areas and refrain from disturbing or approaching the animal.
Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) and frontline field staff have been deployed for continuous monitoring, tracking and mapping of the tiger’s movement pattern.
The Forest Department has appealed to the public to cooperate, follow advisories issued by field staff and immediately report any further sightings, fresh pugmarks or unusual movement to the nearest Forest Department personnel. The situation is being closely watched to prevent any untoward incident.
