Bhubaneswar: Principals-in-charge of non-government aided colleges in Odisha will receive monthly financial incentives ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000, depending on the location and accessibility of their places of posting, following approval of a proposal by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
The decision is aimed at encouraging teachers to take up the responsibility of heading colleges, particularly those located in remote and inaccessible areas, and ensuring the smooth functioning of the teaching process in the higher education sector.
Under the new incentive structure, principals posted in their home districts or developed urban areas will receive Rs 5,000 per month. Those posted outside their home districts will be entitled to Rs 7,000 per month.
Similarly, principals serving at locations 300 km away from their home districts or residences will receive Rs 9,000 per month, while those posted in geographically remote and inaccessible areas will get Rs 10,000 per month.
The classification of posting locations will be determined by a designated committee.
The scheme will cover principals-in-charge of 488 and 662 category non-government aided colleges across the state, benefiting approximately 641 colleges.
The state government is expected to incur an annual expenditure of around Rs 6 crore towards the implementation of the scheme.
The incentives will come into effect from the date of publication of the relevant government notification.
