Kataka: A person died after being hit by a Scorpio allegedly driven rashly by the Executive Officer of Dhenkanal Municipality in Netaji Nagar area in Kataka district.
The deceased has been identified as Pradip Parida, a local resident.
According to reports, Executive Officer Ashwini Kumar Das was driving his Scorpio in a reckless manner and hit Pradip who was walking on the road on Wednesday night. After the accident, the Executive Officer himself took the critically injured Pradip to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in his own vehicle and then absconded. Doctors at SCB, however, declared Pradip dead.
Meanwhile, a video has gone viral on social media showing the Executive Officer taking the injured Pradip in his car while allegedly taking advice over phone on how to escape from the situation and save himself.
