Bhubaneswar: In a significant gesture of solidarity with the flood-affected people, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has decided not to celebrate Diwali this year.
As per an official communication, there will be no Diwali celebration at the Chief Minister’s residence in view of the large-scale devastation caused by post-Cyclone ‘Arnab’ floods, particularly in South Odisha. In this context, all well-wishers and citizens have been requested not to bring gifts or flower bouquets to the CM’s residence on the occasion.
The Chief Minister has appealed to all to remain sensitive towards the people of the affected areas and to extend a helping hand for the assistance of the disaster-affected people.
It is pertinent to mention that the southern districts of Odisha have been severely impacted following heavy rainfall and flooding triggered by Cyclone Arnab, displacing thousands and causing extensive damage to property and crops.
