Bhubaneswar: The Odisha tableau has been short-listed by the Centre to participate in the Republic Day parade in New Delhi on January 26.
The model on the theme of women empowerment and heritage craft village Raghurajpur was highly appreciated by the selection Committee. The Ministry of Defence has written to the Odisha Chief secretary appraising the decision.
The tableau will be a fusion of Odisha’s artistic skill with the essence of heritage village Raghurajpur in Puri.
The tableau will roll on Kartavya Path during the R-day parade on January 26.
“It is a matter of pleasure for all that the Odisha tableau found place in the Republic day event after a gap of three years. The tableau showcased the women empowerment and Kandarpa Haathi (elephant) which is a symbol of progress. Ragurajpur village, wals and patta chitra are also displayed in the back side of the tableau,” said Gajendra Sahu, eminent painter and in-charge of the design and development of tableau.
The tableau portrays the story of craft village that became a centre of attaraction for tourists across the globe through Pattachitra, palm-leaf engravings, wooden carvings, bottle painting and many more.
