Puri: Laser scanning of Ratna Bhandar, the treasure trove of the Shree Jagannath Temple will commence on November 28-the day after Kartik Purnima, informed Chief Administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Ranjan Kumar Das.
The scanning will reveal possible cracks and quantum of damage to the structure of Ratna Bhandar of the 12th century shrine, Das said.
Das stated that the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) took the decision following its discussion with the temple’s technical committee.
If required laser scanning of Bhitar Bhandar (inner chamber) of the Ratna Bhandar and temples of the Parswa devis and devatas (side deities) will be conducted after conduct of scanning of the outer walls of the Ratna Bhandar, he added.
Earlier in the day, the SJTA Chief Administrator told reporters that the Shree Jagannatha Temple Managing Committee has allowed the ASI to conduct laser scanning of the temple’s Ratna Bhandar, the treasure trove of the 12th century shrine.
He had said that currently, the Kartik Brata ritual is underway and there is a rush of devotees.
He, however, had added that the ASI will carry out the job as per their convinience on arrival of the scanning machine.
