Bhubaneswar: The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has been hiked by Rs 993, with the new rates taking effect from Friday, May 1. Following the revision, the cylinder now costs Rs 3,071.50 in Delhi.
In contrast, the price of the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder remains unchanged. This decision helps shield Indian households from the sharp fluctuations seen in global fuel prices in recent weeks.
Commercial LPG prices have witnessed multiple upward revisions in quick succession. The cost was first raised by Rs 144 in March, followed by another increase of nearly Rs 200 on April 1.
This latest hike—the third in a short span—is expected to significantly impact restaurants, hotels, caterers, and other commercial establishments that depend heavily on LPG for daily cooking operations.
The price increase comes against the backdrop of escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia. The ongoing conflict between the US-Israel alliance and Iran, which erupted on February 28, has now entered its eighth week.
The standoff has severely disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz—a critical chokepoint for global energy supplies. These disruptions have affected oil and gas flows, triggering fresh volatility in international energy markets.
