New Delhi: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director Praveen Sood discussed the growing menace of cybercrime with Officers of Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) Mauritius, on the concluding day of their two-week training at the probe agency’s academy, an official said on Friday.
Sood discussed with the delegates ways to mitigate the impact of cybercrimes along with the areas of mutual interest and common challenges with emphasis on making cross-border investigation expeditious and effective, the official said in a statement.
The two-week training was delivered extensively on the investigation of financial crimes and cyber-enabled crimes to the officers of FCC Mauritius.
The CBI Academy conducted the two-week training course, which commenced on August 10, for the visiting officers through the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme of the Ministry of External Affairs.
The programme’s concluding session was held at the CBI Headquarters in New Delhi.
The event was presided over by Sood, who had earlier served as the Police Advisor to the Government of Mauritius from 1999 to 2002, the statement said.
The CBI Director had an interaction with the participants and discussed the growing menace of cybercrime in India and Mauritius, the reasons behind and the challenges faced in the investigations.
The ways to mitigate the impact of cybercrimes were also discussed along with the areas of mutual interest and common challenges with emphasis on making cross-border investigation expeditious and effective, the statement added.
The Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme (ITEC) is the leading capacity building platform of the Ministry of External Affairs.
During the training year 2025-26 alone, close to 9,000 professionals visited India for ITEC courses.
Instituted in 1964, ITEC is one of the oldest institutionalised arrangements for international capacity building having trained more than 200,000 officials from 160-plus countries in both the civilian and in the defence sector.
Building on India’s vast and rich network of governance and development-related expertise available in higher educational institutions and training facilities, ITEC annually offers more than 10,000 fully-funded in-person training opportunities at 100-plus eminent institutes in India, according to the statement.
Since 2014, more than 80,000 professionals — including more than 30,000 women — from across all countries of the Global South have availed of these training opportunities, and have taken back with them valuable exposures and development learnings from India.
