Srinagar: A court in J&K’s Srinagar district on Monday sentenced an ex terrorist to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 for murder.

In a statement, Srinagar Police said it had secured the conviction of an ex terrorist in a 2020 murder case registered as FIR No. 03/2020 at Police Station Maisuma.

“The Hon’ble Court has convicted Ghulam Mohi ud Din Dar, son of Abdul Gani Dar, resident of Bichwara, Dalgate, Srinagar, for the murder of Abdul Gani Dar, son of Mohd. Abdullah, resident of Rassu, Budgam, under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The convict has been sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life, along with a fine of Rs 50,000,” the statement said.

The convict is a former terrorist and one of the founding members of Tehreek ul Mujahideen (TuM), which emerged as a terrorist outfit associated with the Jamiat e Ahl e Hadith movement in Kashmir.

During his period of militancy, he was involved in violent activities including grenade attacks, assaults on security checkpoints, weapon snatching incidents and targeted killings of civilians and security personnel. He also provided logistical support and facilitated networks with other terrorist outfits, including Lashkar e Taiba (LeT) and Hizb ul Mujahideen (HM), up to the 2000s.

He was later arrested, and the conviction is the outcome of a meticulous investigation conducted by Srinagar Police and effective prosecution before the court.

The case demonstrates that an individual’s past association with militancy does not place them beyond the reach of the law, and that serious criminal offences are pursued through due process irrespective of the accused’s background.

The outcome reflects the commitment of Srinagar Police towards ensuring justice for victims through professional investigation, scientific evidence and diligent prosecution. Srinagar Police said it remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding the rule of law, ensuring justice for victims and bringing offenders to justice in accordance with law.
