Eight Maoists, Including Five Women, Surrender In Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur

Raipur/Bijapur: Eight Maoist cadres active in Jharkhand, including five women, surrendered to the Bijapur Police on Wednesday, abandoning the path of violence and choosing to join the mainstream.

A collective reward of Rs 49 lakh had been announced for the group. The cadres, long associated with the banned CPI (Maoist), were influenced by the Chhattisgarh government’s Naxal surrender and rehabilitation policy, ongoing skill development initiatives in Bijapur district, and positive news of former cadres being successfully rehabilitated.

Factors such as the growing pressure of security forces, the organisation’s weakening position, disillusionment with its violent ideology, and rapid development in tribal areas also motivated their decision.

They surrendered with the assistance of the Jharkhand Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Excellent coordination, trust-building and a sensitive approach among the three forces played a key role in the success of the operation.

The surrendering cadres are; Ashwin alias Lachhu (30), DVCM/ZCM, South Zonal Committee (Jharkhand), reward Rs 8 lakh; Ranga alias Sohan (30), member, Saranda Sub-Zonal Committee/DVCM, reward Rs 8 lakh; Doba Madvi alias Rahat (25), member, Saranda sub-zonal committee/DVCM, reward Rs 8 lakh; Fagni Poyam alias Rajni (28), member, Kolhan Area Committee, reward Rs 5 lakh; Suraj Munni Champia alias Subani (25), member, Kolhan Area Committee, reward Rs 5 lakh; Hidme Kadti alias Rita (27), member, Kolhan Area Committee, reward Rs 5 lakh; Budhari Kunjam alias Anusha (25), member, Kolhan Area Committee, reward Rs 5 lakh; and Salami Champiya alias Jilani (20), ERB Squad member/security guard, reward Rs 5 lakh.

Most of them hail from Bijapur and neighbouring districts of Chhattisgarh, though they were operating in various regions of Jharkhand.

Under the state’s Naxal Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy, all eight will receive financial assistance, skill development training, housing, education support, and opportunities for self-employment or jobs.

The district administration and police will provide continuous guidance to ensure their dignified reintegration into society. Authorities said the surrender is an example of the effectiveness of the government’s rehabilitation programmes and the sustained efforts of security forces in encouraging cadres to renounce violence and lead peaceful lives.
