New Delhi: In a step towards making Delhi’s administrative framework more streamlined and citizen-centric, the Union Home Ministry has aligned the names of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) zones with the Delhi government’s new revenue district nomenclature, an official said on Tuesday.

The Central Government has amended the Fourteenth Schedule of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957 to formally effect change in Delhi’s administrative system, said the official in a statement.

Through a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Fourteenth Schedule of the Act has been revised, notifying the updated details of MCD wards and their corresponding zones.

The notification lists all 250 MCD wards in detail along with their respective zones.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the decision marks an important step towards making Delhi’s administrative framework more streamlined, accessible and citizen-centric.

The Chief Minister said the amendment to the Fourteenth Schedule of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957 by the Ministry of Home Affairs will help strengthen coordination between Delhi’s revenue administration and the Municipal Corporation.

In line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas aur Sabka Prayas’, the statement said the government remains committed to making governance simpler, more transparent and more effective.

A uniform nomenclature for administrative areas will improve coordination among departments, enable more effective implementation of government schemes and make it easier for Delhi’s citizens to access public services, she said.

She added that the move reinforces the Prime Minister’s broader vision of making citizens’ lives easier through technology, better coordination and good governance.

The Revenue Department of the Delhi government had, through a notification issued on December 25, 2025, created 39 sub-divisions/tehsils and 13 areas in the National Capital Territory of Delhi.

These were aligned with the 12 zones of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the New Delhi Municipal Council and the Delhi Cantonment area.

With administrative efficiency and public convenience in view, the names of the existing MCD zones have now been formally aligned with the new revenue district nomenclature, the statement said.

The revised Fourteenth Schedule lists all 250 MCD wards along with their respective zones. Accordingly, the 12 MCD zones are now listed as Outer North, North, North-West, Central North, Old Delhi, Central, West, South-West, South-East, South, East and North-East.

This administrative alignment is expected to improve coordination among different departments at the regional level in Delhi. Bringing uniformity in the regional nomenclature of the revenue administration and the Municipal Corporation is expected to facilitate the implementation of government schemes, strengthen inter-departmental coordination and make the delivery of public services clearer and more effective.
