Nightclub Owned By Rapper-Singer Badshah Sealed In Chandigarh

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh administration on Tuesday sealed Sago, a nightclub owned by rapper-singer Badshah, in Sector-26 here as part of a crackdown on commercial establishments violating building bylaws.

“We sealed the club Sago owing to several building violations,” Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav told the media.

“Despite being granted considerable time and multiple opportunities to rectify or regularise the violations, the occupants allegedly failed to comply with the directions of the Estate Office,” he added.

Local authorities issued a showcause notice to the club’s occupants on April 25 after inspections that found unauthorised alterations in the building.

Officials found unauthorised construction of cabins and partitions, toilets, a kitchen, and a cold store.

Earlier, rapper-singer Badshah was in limelight after the Haryana State Commission for Women had directed the state police to arrest him after he failed to appear before the panel in Panipat in March in connection with a controversy surrounding his Haryanvi track “Tateeree”.

Commission Chairperson Renu Bhatia had said police in Panipat and Panchkula were instructed to take action against the artist after he did not respond to a summons issued by the commission.

Bhatia added that notices had been issued across the state, saying that the rapper would not be permitted to hold performances in Haryana unless he appeared before the commission.

According to the complaint, the music video for “Tateeree”, released on Badshah’s official YouTube channel, showed girls in school uniforms dancing inside a Haryana Roadways bus while making gestures that critics have described as objectionable.

The Haryana State Commission for Women had taken notice of the video and summoned the singer for questioning.

The complainants had alleged that the song contains objectionable language and sexualised references that objectify women and minors.
