New Delhi: Meteorologists on Thursday attributed hot winds as the reason for rising temperatures in different parts of the country, with Uttar Pradesh’s Banda recording the highest temperature the day before at 48.2 degrees, followed by Wardha, in Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region, with 47.1 degrees.

Talking to IANS, meteorologist Mohammad Danish said that a lot of hot westerly winds are coming in from desert areas. “The hot winds are strong enough due to which the temperature has been continuously increasing over the last 4–5 days,” he said.

“If we talk about Banda, it has been the hottest place in the country for the last 4 days. The temperature in Banda was recorded at 48 degrees yesterday,” he added.

Danish highlighted that for the coming days, a Red alert is in place for the Prayagraj division and Agra division, and an Orange alert has also been issued in other areas.

He mentioned that a yellow alert has been issued in Lucknow.

“In maximum areas of Uttar Pradesh, the temperature is above 40-45 degrees. Overall, sweltering heat is being experienced across the state,” the meteorologist said.

He noted that the sun is at its peak between 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. “The chances of dehydration are extremely high during this period, more so because of hot winds,” he added.

Danish advised people to remain indoors in the afternoon, unless it is extremely necessary.

“If going outside is necessary, then carry a bottle of water and keep yourself hydrated. Also, remember to keep your head covered.”

Meteorologist Praveen Kumar mentioned that in the entire Vidarbha region, the highest temperature was recorded at 47.1 degrees Celsius C in Wardha. “It was recorded as the second hottest place in the country,” he said.

“Yesterday, most areas of Vidarbha recorded temperatures in the range of 46–47 degrees Celsius. In most regions, conditions were close to a heatwave or severe heatwave situation.”

Praveen Kumar mentioned that places like Amaravati, Wardha, Nagpur, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli in Maharashtra have so far registered above normal minimum temperatures this year.
