Bhubaneswar: A Special Squad of Commissionerate Police on Wednesday nabbed eleven members of the notorious Eragola gang involved in a series of robberies in the state.
Police have seized Rs 2 lakh cash and 17 gold chains from the possession of criminals, informed Sanjeev Panda, Commissioner of Police of Twin City of Cuttack Bhubaneswar.
All of them hail from Tippa Colony in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh and belong to the Eragola tribe.
Notorious for thefts and robberies across the country, the gang usually target people returning from banks after withdrawing money and women wearing gold jewellery. Also, they break open the glass doors of cars and dickey of scooters and bikes to decamp with valuables kept in cars, scooters and motorcycles.
The Commissionerate Police found a disturbing trend where snatching, theft and burglary cases were committed by criminals from other states. Acting on series of complaints filed in this regard, the Special Squad swung into action and arrested them.
