Bhubaneswar: A court in Paralakhemundi on Thursday sentenced life imprisonment to 14 people in a 15-year-old murder case.
Paralakhemundi additional district session judge Pradeep Kumar Samal also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on all convicts, Public Prosecutor Brundaban Nayak informed.
All the convicts are Sakalamukhi Ballabha (84), Guralu Budu (56), Nagabansa Nagarjuna (28), Padala Prasad (47), Jilipi Krishna (42), Nagabansa Ramaswami (36), Liari Suresh (42), Nagabansa Ramakrushna (34), Sakalamukhi Madhava (26), Nagabansa Simadri (62), Harikrishna Nagabansa (50), Nagabansa Padman (41), Nagabansa Radhakanta (43), Guralu Gopala (62), Nagabansa Bhaskar and Jangam Harinath.
All of them had allegedly attacked and molested a woman in her house at Ghasi Sahi in Paralakhemundi on March 12, 2009 over past enmity.
Police had rescued the woman and admitted her to hospital where she died while undergoing treatment. Her family members had lodged a complaint with police, based on which police registered a case and arrested 16 persons involved in the incident.
During trial of the case, two of them had died. So, 14 were convicted of murder after 15 years.
