Rayagada: At least 15 people were injured, including three critically, after a pickup van carrying members of a wedding party overturned at Tera Ghat under Sheshakhal Police Station limits in Odisha’s Rayagada district on Saturday.
According to reports, around 30 people from Argusala and Tikarpada villages were travelling to Marichakana village in Kolnara block to attend the bride’s send-off (vidai) ceremony. While passing through Tera Ghat, the pickup van reportedly lost balance while attempting to move forward on the hilly stretch and overturned on the roadside.
Local villagers rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. With their assistance, all the injured passengers were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
Three persons sustained serious injuries in the accident and are stated to be in critical condition. They have been identified as Seka Puaka, Kumbar Puaka and Penta Mandangi.
Police have initiated an inquiry into the incident. Further details are awaited.
