Baripada: The Excise Department has seized 214 bottles of cough syrup during a raid in Mayurbhanj district and arrested a man allegedly involved in its illegal sale, officials said on Friday.
The District Mobile Excise team conducted the raid in the Balimunduli area under Kuliana police station limits and recovered the bottles suspected to have been stocked for illicit trade.
The arrested accused, identified as 30-year-old Gobinda Chandra Nayak, was produced before a court under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
According to the Excise Department, drug traffickers are procuring cough syrup from places such as Chhattisgarh and Kolkata and distributing it across different parts of Mayurbhanj district.
Excise Inspector H. Jagarao said enforcement drives against the illegal trade in cough syrup and other narcotic substances would continue in the district.
