Bhubaneswar: A total of 25,076 low-tension (LT) electricity connections were disconnected in Odisha over the past five years due to pending electricity dues, Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo informed the State Assembly on Wednesday.
In a written reply to a question by BJD leader and Balikuda-Erasama MLA Sarada Prasanna Jena, Singh Deo said that of these disconnected connections, 12,195 have since been reconnected across all state DISCOMs, including TPNODL, TPWODL, TPCODL, and TPSODL, during the financial years 2021-22 to 2025-26.
The Minister said electricity for agricultural purposes is supplied at subsidised rates of 1.50 paise per unit for LT consumers and 1.40 paise per unit for HT consumers, significantly lower than the average electricity rates.
To address farmers’ grievances, all DISCOM offices—from Section Offices to Circle Offices—are taking necessary measures. Farmers can also approach Experience Centers and Customer Care for resolution of their issues.
Singh Deo added that, as per Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) regulations, Grievance Redressal Forums (GRFs) are operational under the DISCOMs, and Ombudsman offices are also functional to resolve consumer complaints.
