Bhubaneswar: As the Deep Depression over the Bay of Bengal (BoB) intensified and moved towards the Odisha-Andhra coast, sea conditions have turned extremely rough along the Odisha coast.
In view of the turbulent sea, 28 fishing trawlers from Andhra Pradesh carrying 248 fishermen have taken shelter at Paradip Port.
Sources said the fishermen were out in the deep sea for fishing when the sea turned rough under the influence of the deep depression. Unable to return to their home state due to high wind and swell, they sailed towards Paradip and took shelter.
Meanwhile, Paradip Port has hoisted Local Cautionary Signal Number 3 following the formation of the deep depression.
The deep depression was last located around 150 km south of Gopalpur and is very likely to cross the coast near Kalingapatnam tonight. Under its influence, wind speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph is likely to prevail over the sea.
As a precautionary measure, the Port authorities have restricted the entry of vessels into the harbour. All port operations have been regulated and fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea.
